MultiFunction Service – Overview

Since documents can be scanned as input to the DocuPhase Platform from Multi-Function office equipment such as combination Copier/Printer/Scanner/Fax devices, these scanned documents can be automatically processed for capture in the DocuPhase Repository.

The MultiFunction Service is able to automatically recognize Patch Codes and separate individual documents during document-scanning capture when many single or multi-page documents are input in a Batch using separator pages.

Typically, Patch Code separator documents are mass printed and can even be reused as well as printed by the DocuPhase BarCoder product.

When a user scans a batch of documents, they insert the Patch Code separator sheets between each of the documents, then the batch is placed into the Multi-Function Device’s (MFD) input hopper to scan it as a digital batch.  The MultiFunction Service is then able to separate each of the individual single or multi-page documents as digital documents for capture in the DocuPhase Platform’s Repository.

During this automatic capture of individual documents from the digital batch, the complementary and co-operating modules Data Exchange Service and Xtractor can also aid in automatically indexing each document using database lookups and/or Optical Character Recognition (OCR/Barcode), respectively, as each document is captured in the DocuPhase Platform’s Repository.
