Scanning

Scanning is the process of converting paper documents into electronic formatted documents (i.e., digital files).

When converting paper documents to digital-image files by scanning, an electronic Document may become an image file with the extension TIFF or TIF (Tagged Image File Format) – Also, other scanned document formats are possible and can be stored in DocuPhase (e.g., PDF, JPG, etc.).  This process of converting paper documents to digital documents typically uses high performance, production-oriented scanners that can process from 15-200+ pages per minute.

ScanDox is the DocuPhase Capture Core product that provides comprehensive document scanning and quality-control as well as digital-file capture, image and page manipulation features, Automatic Index Data Lookup; plus, Manual and Automatic Indexing support capabilities in one tool that can be used for remote upload and direct submission to the DocuPhase repository for storage and/or further processing.

Note:  ScanDox is a client-based product that can support low to high-speed scanners using the client-based Heavyweight Viewer module that is able to support flexible and demanding capture needs.

After initial capture, DocuPhase can route, further index, store and manage converted TIFF, PDF, JPEG, Microsoft Office Documents as pages of native images.  The DocuPhase lightweight document viewer is able to display, manipulate and annotate TIFF, PDF and many other types of document images from within its browser interface and viewer frame.

After a document has been captured in the DocuPhase repository and being viewed in the DocuPhase UI Viewer Pane, it can be sent to ScanDox for rework to rescan or add new pages, etc.   After rework in ScanDox, the same document can be returned to the DocuPhase UI to continue its processing and its update in the repository.  For more information, see the topic: The ‘Send to ScanDox’ Feature.
