Operational Workflow – Using an Exception Task

Upon the occurrence of an exception event, users that are assigned to the receiving  Exception Task will see the work item that caused the exception in their Work Item Viewer.   Typically, the user handling the exception is not the original task user, but they may be a supervisor or exception-handling specialist.

This allows the exception-handling user to conveniently select the item in their Work Item Viewer and proceed to resolve the exception.  Likewise, its priority in the viewer may be raised since this work item is now delayed by the exception condition that needs to be resolved before continuing.

Once the exception is resolved, the exception-handling user clicks the Return to Flow button and the normal workflow process resumes.
