Manual User Task

The Manual User Task definition creates an operator-attended task which consists of one or many individual manual processing steps.

The range of things that an operator may do at this point in the workflow can be highly varied since the workflow task has certain documents available for viewing, annotation, and other things specific to Progression and DocuPhase.

Each workflow step is able to present its user with:

§ Instructions as to what to do at this Task and Step point in the process

§ Deliver the Work Item Viewer via a web-browser to where any of the work item’s documents, pages/images or other multi-media representations may be accessed/viewed, browsed or annotated.

§ Action Buttons that determine whether to exit to the next task in workflow or proceed to a designated Task Step.

These interactive features are defined by the Task Designer to make each Manual User Task as easy to learn and use as possible.

However, the interaction at a Manual User Task is not limited to the Progression and DocuPhase environment.   The user is able to interact with any other application software appropriate to each Task and Step.

As a user is processing a work item for a task and step, the instructions may prompt the user to access specific programs, screens and operations working with database or legacy applications while viewing and using work item documents.  Much creativity and flexibility is afforded to the workflow designer that can also be extended to the workflow users based on the business need and business practices with Manual User Tasks.

Of all of the types of progression Task Definitions, only the Manual User Task and the Exception Tasks support human interactions.

The users that are able to see and perform these user-attended tasks in their work queues are Subscribers to the task that are explicitly assigned to each task as a User or member of a Group using its Assignment tab or by inheriting the assignment when in the scope of an ‘Assignment Block’ established by an Assignment task and its corresponding End-Assignment task.

The following table provides a brief summary of the Manual User Task Definition.

Manual User Task Description

A Manual User Task requires human interaction, such as a manager signing a document, acquiring additional information or processing a work item that is linked to document(s).

The Manual User Task allows you to create a User Interface (UI) within the DocuPhase Interface>Workflow Tab.

A Manual User Task can be composed of one or more Steps to provide the workflow user with one or multiple prompts to interact with the current User Task.  You can add instructions and links to the task to either exit or jump between steps within the same defined task.

All of the Task specification can be done without programming or scripting – You just need to configure the Task, its Step(s) and other required tabs to complete a Manual User Task definition.

The following table shows that the Manual User Task utilizes all of the common types of tabs that are explained in detail in a prior section (Task Definition – Common Tabs).

Since these Task Tab specification windows have been explained in detail previously, this section will simply recap the tab-specifications for an example Progression Design of a task definition and then present the Operational Workflow view that a workflow user sees as they process a work item with this example task.
