BarCoder – Manual

  _View PDF

BarCoder produces PatchCode and BarCoded document-separator pages to separate individual documents when scanning batches as well as to often aid in automatic indexing of the individual items being captured using the information read from the barcodes when present.

Rather than feed each document individually, a batch of documents are typically placed in a scanning device’s input hopper for greater efficiency and convenience.  However, it is important to retain the integrity of the set of pages for each document, especially when the number of pages in each document can vary.  A separator page is typically used for this purpose with an identifying Patch Code or a specific Barcode

Generic separator pages can be mass printed and reused, but in some cases separator cover-sheet pages are prepared and printed by BarCoder that include barcoded fields of information that can be automatically read and used to index the document when scanned or processed by DocuPhase capture-recognition components such as Xtractor.

An example of a batch of multi-page medical documents is illustrated below – Each with its own BarCoder generated separator cover-sheet.

ScanDox profiles can even include or exclude the separator document in the captured item as well as leave it as the first page or place it as the last page of the document automatically.

BarCoder can also perform automatic ODBC database lookups on external databases to automatically populate and barcode one or many of its index fields.  Often as little as a single key-index is captured by manual entry or other automated means (e.g., such as iLink passing the key from a user’s current screen), then the key-value(s) are used to retrieve the additional indexes for display & printing on each BarCoder output page.
