Automatic Task

The Automatic Task provides the ability to call an executable process on the server, such as a batch file, Visual Basic script, application program or any executable you might put into the server side to run without a user interface.

Note:  An Automatic Task type is not in the available subset of allowed Tasks for use under a Progression Lite license.

Within the executable Automatic Task, you can define the program, the parameter arguments to pass when the program is called, how long and if we want to wait for the program to complete or just launch and continue; plus, how many automatic retries we want to attempt should a problem occur.  Also the Automated Task can launch one or many executable commands, parameters and wait options.

Note: The Automatic Task does not have a user interface and is handled by the Progression Workflow Engine.

Progression Task

Automatic Task Description

The Automatic Task is a node in a workflow path that will automatically execute an external application program.  One or more Steps may be specified in an Automated Task.

Note:  External application programs must be installed and run on the Server environment that supports Progression and not on a user’s workstation computer.

For example, the Accounts Payable Process could have an automatic task that executes a command or program to automatically print the General Ledger transactions for month-end reporting from its server.

The tabs for multiple types of tasks that the Automatic Task has in common with other tasks are listed with x-marks in the grid (above) and they are explained in detail in a previous section (Task Definition – Common Tabs).
