Process Definition

After the Document and Binder definitions you need to use for your next process are defined, you can begin to create your Process Definitions and workflow.

There are multiple ways to initially create a new process.  However, the most common way is to click the New Process Tool Accelerator Button on the Processes Pane of the Progression Dashboard, as shown below.

This creates a new Process object named “New Process” by default, as shown above.  Clicking the plus-sign (+) symbol to its left, expands the “New Process” process revealing the two (2) Task Definitions, Start Task and Exception Task, that are automatically created by default for every new process.  These Task objects are conveniently available for you to edit and complete their specification when you are ready.

By double-clicking the New Process object in the Processes Pane, the Process Designer window opens to display the beginnings of a workflow diagram for your new Process with the two (2) default tasks visible.

The initially configured Process Designer window has prepared you to further configure the: Process, its default Task objects, add additional Task components from its Tool Bar and connect these objects into an operational business workflow.

Once the new process has been created, you can access and configure the properties of it by doing a right-mouse-button (RMB) click on the New Process object in the Processes Pane of the Progression Dashboard, as shown below.

Selecting the Properties menu choice produces the following Process properties window, shown below.

Although entering a Process Description is optional, when the cursor hovers over a Process entry or selects it in the Dashboard Process pane – The Description text appears along with Checked-In or Checked-Out status in the cursor’s tooltip prompt, as shown below.

You can also rename a Process Definition by selection it in the Progression Studio Dashboard>Processes pane and clicking on its name caption to enter text-edit mode, as shown below.

Edit the current name, within the caption, to rename the Process, as shown in the above example.

In addition, you can add and edit the component Tasks of the Process by selecting:

Task objects in the Processes Pane of the Progression Dashboard or

The Task icons that appear in the workflow graph in the Progression Designer window.
